Digizen: social networks and education

Check out the report on digizen on social networking services in education. High five to the Open University course profiles app on Facebook, which gets a mention under Profile-based social networking services. Includes examples of all our best friends - Ning, Twitter, Facebook, Second Life and YouTube - and how they are being used in the world of education.

Digizen have been looking at SN services:

For staff development and digital literacy – for example, to better understand sites that are popular with your learners; to be able to deliver e-safety information
To engage with students and other members of your school, college or organisational community who are using services – for example, by setting up a school profile to provide information about your institution
To use social networking services for e-learning – for example, working with learners or supporting their collaboration on a particular class, topic or project
For ICT provision planning – for example, exploring services because you are considering hosting or running your own services for your community
For Personal Learning Environment planning – for example, seeing how particular services can be incorporated into institutional service provision, and how learners might use social network services as hub sites – exporting and importing resources created on particular sites in other locations.
